- _n_v_r_a_m can be used to set or print the values of non-volatile RAM
- variables.
-
- When invoked with no arguments, _n_v_r_a_m displays all known variables in the
- _n_a_m_e=_v_a_l_u_e form. The _n_v_r_a_m arguments are:
-
- _n_a_m_e Print the value of _n_a_m_e.
-
- _v_a_l_u_e If _n_a_m_e is defined in non-volatile RAM, replace _n_a_m_e's definition
- string with _v_a_l_u_e.
-
- ----vvvv Print a line of the form _n_a_m_e=_v_a_l_u_e after getting or setting the
- named variable.
-
- If invoked as _s_g_i_k_o_p_t, more than one _n_a_m_e can be given. _n_a_m_es that do
- not match known variables are ignored.
-
- The exit status is 1 if any arguments do not match and 0 otherwise.
-
- NNNNOOOOTTTTEEEESSSS
- Non-volatile RAM contains a small set of well-known strings at fixed
- offsets. _n_v_r_a_m can not be used to define new variables.
-
- Only the superuser can set variables.
-
- The term "non-volatile RAM" is somewhat misleading, because some
- variables are placed only in volatile RAM and are reset on power-up.
- Different systems have different mixes of volatile and non-volatile
- variables.
-
- DDDDIIIIAAAAGGGGNNNNOOOOSSSSTTTTIIIICCCCSSSS
- If an attempt to get or set a variable fails for any reason, _n_v_r_a_m prints
- an appropriate message on standard error and exits with non-zero status.
-
- Not all systems support the ability to change the contents of non-
- volatile memory with the _n_v_r_a_m command. To change the contents of non-
- volatile memory on systems that do not support _n_v_r_a_m, you must use the
- PROM monitor _s_e_t_e_n_v command.
